I am certainly not a coffee snob. To me, making drip coffee seems like a simple process. . .just cause hot water to flow through the ground coffee. And even the cheapest coffeemakers I have tried were able to do this. The problems I have had with other machines have to do with what happens to the coffee after it is made. Some machines don't consistently release the valve that stops the flow when you remove the carafe holding the coffee in the basket. One experience with coffee flowing all over the counter top and that coffeemaker is trash. I want the coffee to be hot when I pour it. I don't want to have to put the cup of fresh poured coffee in the microwave to heat it to the right temperature. And the third problem I have had is pouring the coffee out of the carafe without making a mess. The B&D Smartbrew has none of these problems. No problem with the valve. The coffee in the carafe is hot, and it pours GREAT. The carafe is shaped kind of like a pitcher with a long lip. I love this thing. The only negative is it shuts off after 2 hours and I am sometimes not finished with the coffee. (but I don't have any more black, scorched pots in the morning because I forgot to turn it off.)

Coffee maker does well except for one major item! When pouring into cup, the pot seems to leak onto counter almost as much as what goes in the cup! Unless you pour it at the rate of taking about 15 seconds per cup.
